Netflix is a highly successful business that seems to only be improving, and becoming more popular over time. Many of us have heard that streaming services are the future, but have you realized how glued you are to your screens since?
As Netflix begins to act and seem like a television network itself, new research estimates a higher consumption on watching television, such as Netflix, than any other time period. The average Netflix user watches 10 shows and 4 films per week. Studies cannot calculate how much of the show subscribers are watching, so this could range from one episode per 10 shows, or 10 episodes per 10 shows. Only the viewer knows how much they are really watching.
Researchers said that just 3 years ago, this number was 50% less. The average in 2012 was 5 shows per week, and 2 films per week. During these times, steaming was also not as popular, so the option to watch 10 episodes in a sitting was less possible.
As smartphones get bigger, and are more technologically advanced, the number of subscribers who use their smartphone to watch Netflix has tripled in these last 3 years. 24% of Netflix users are using their account on a smartphone, which could be in addition to any other platforms they already use at home.
25% of current subscribers are said to be “binge watching” their favorite shows on Netflix. Simply meaning, endless streaming of shows for more than a few episodes. Most binge watchers fall between the ages of 13 and 35.
Netflix is praised for their company growing so heavily, and is said to be television of the future, but older generations disagree with the fact that Netflix and other streaming platforms seem to be taking over. This gives us a little something to think about. Maybe going to spend a day at the park is not so bad. Taking one day off from Netflix will technically not even hurt the company, since you are subscribing on a month-to-month basis.
We applaud Netflix on all achievements made in the last few years, and see a big future, full of more series and films!
